Can stuttering not be avoided in audio-bounded games like Theatrhythm?

I’m not 100% sure whether this should be tagged as #citra-support or #media but I was wondering if anyone else is getting random micro-stutters in games that are heavily bounded to it’s audio (in this case, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy CC) which in turn screws up the sync, making the game unenjoyable and harder.

You can see the audio starts to fall behind the gameplay at around 1:26, and a particularly big hiccup at 2:33.

Do you need a stronger system to avoid this? Or is the emulator at fault?

My specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 3 1200
  • GPU: GTX 1050Ti
  • RAM: 8GB DDR4 2667MHz

Did you try the cubeb audio output engine? does it improve anything? also try with ‘Enable audio stretching’ disabled.

Changed to Citra Support since that’s what you are asking.

It was already set to cubeb, and Audio Stretching was disabled beforehand (and probably should in 90% of the cases) since it makes the audio slow down and up everytime there’s lag in the game itself.
