Every time I click on the citra qt icon, the terminal pops up, but the game menu thing doesn’t.
I use 10.12.6 on my Macbook pro in mid 2014

Try this:
Try nightly-976 , some mac users reported problems with the latest nightly builds, just download the citra-osx, extract to a folder and run citra-qt.
report if that works, so we can troubleshoot which build is causing the issue.
Update your OS if necessary.

Just keep in mind that newer citra builds come with new features, improved performance and stability. you may need to update your OS to use newer builds.
