i’m having the same problem. trying it both canary and nightly still same… hope someone help me… already using the newest gpu driver…

Download and install the latest driver available for your GPU from AMD’s website.

Does my computer need to be up to date (w/ updates) in order for the AMD software to detect my drivers? The screen is stuck on loading.

Check out the driver specification, it may require some basic things like runtime libraries (which its most likely to be bundle it the driver installer anyway) and maybe things like service packs (on windows vista and 7), but its usually not necessary to be up-to-date. especially if you are on Windows 7/8/8.1.
