I’ve been using Citra for about 2 years now with no issues, I tried to use it for the first time today in months, but it would crash every time. It would crash when I would boot up the emulator itself or when I am trying to load a save state (SMT IV Apocalypse) after starting a game. I have it fully updated and I don’t know what’s going on or how to fix it? Any tips? I’m on windows 11.

In order to save a copy of the log, follow this guide:
https://community.citra-emu.org/t/how-to-upload-the-log-file/296
The log file is incomplete. Make sure you follow the steps carefully:
- Open Citra, then go to
File>Open Citra Folder
(Citra>Open Citra Folder if on MacOS) and open up the log
folder. Now keep that open in the background.
- Launch your game and encounter the problem; crash/slowdown/glitch and close Citra if it doesn’t do so by itself. Do not restart Citra as that will wipe the log of important information!
- Now upload the log file in this chat.

I’m not sure if this is right, I did follow the instructions though.
Ah, the issue is that you’re using save states to load your progress after so long. Save states are not a replacement for in-game save files. They’re a lot more unstable, and will break after repeatedly saving upon save state loaded progress or after certain Citra updates. Thus, it is recommended that you use your in-game save files most of all when saving your progress, and to only use save states within single gaming sessions, not beyond them.
If you don’t have any recent in-game save file, please let me know which save state slot you are trying to load, and I’ll try to find the last Citra version that supported that save state. Hopefully you can load it on that Citra version, and then save in-game so that you can load your progress on the latest Citra builds again.
I am trying to load save slot 2 if that is possible. Appreciate all your help with this
Download citra-windows-mingw-20220706-353aaaf.7z from Release nightly-1773 · citra-emu/citra-nightly · GitHub
Extract it using winrar or 7zip, then launch citra-qt(.exe) from the extracted folder. Load your game in here, load your save state. Now save in-game and you’ll be good to go. You can now delete this build and continue playing on your most recent Citra version.
