Couldn't do multiplayer with friend

hello.
since yesterday i tried playing animal crossing with a friend (we’re far apart), i decided to make a room, but an error popped up and said “unable to connect to host. verify that the connection settings are correct. if you still cannot connect, contact the room host and verify that the host is properly configured with the external port forwarded.” my friend made a room and i tried to enter but it still didn’t work. same error.

in other rooms i could enter with ease, but not in my friend’s rooms.
the next day, i thought it might work without a password and shrunk the room limit into two people for only the both of us. it still didn’t work.

did we miss any part on making a room? did we do anything wrong? we need advice.

Did you configure your router to open the port for Citra for the local IP address that your computer was given? Here is an example what you need to do, each router is different so you have to find the equivalent yourself.

If you are unable to host you can use the available public rooms that other people have hosted instead.

hey, sorry for the really late reply, i don’t know if i should ask you this but, how could i do the router thing, though?

Try find your router here for a general tutorial: https://portforward.com/router.htm if it is not there you might need to get help from your Internet Service Provider(ISP) or your router’s manufacturer.
