I have narrowed the issue - it seems to be related to my second screen.
Before today I was always playing with my laptop unplugged. Today’s issues happened while plugged in and connected to another monitor. Diagnosed after comments on a similar thread here

tbh, not the end of the world, easier to play with a controller outside my desk area. Glad I haven’t lost my progress and able to play again.

Well, you could try updating your Intel drivers like I mentioned in that other topic. That would probably allow you to launch Citra on your second monitor.

To update, download and install gfx_win_101.3790_101.2114.exe from Intel® Graphics – Windows* DCH Drivers

Let me know if you encounter any issues during the installation.
