Dragon Quest VIII Resolution

#1

Issue:
Just wondering if there’s any chance that increasing the internal resolution on Dragon Quest VIII will ever work? Been waiting for this for awhile, and was excited when it finally happened with Dragon Quest VII. Attached a few screenshots to show the difference. The bottom 2 are the title screen from VII from months ago with internal resolution on 10x and the latest Canary build with internal resolution on 10x. The grass and the characters in VIII is just a pixely mess even with 10x internal resolution (Changing the internal resolution doesn’t seem to make any difference in VIII). Is this something that will eventually come, or should I just give up hope?

Are you sure you’re not confusing this for an FMV?. The game should be upscaled during gameplay.

#3

Okay, just checked. You are right. Wow! Major difference! Thanks! Still a little confused though. Is the opening to DQVII also an FMV? If so, why is that getting the 10x resolution treatment but not the opening FMV from DQVIII?

#4

Because DQVII’s opening isn’t an FMV.

#5

Okay, that explains that. Thanks! Weird that Square Enix did it differently, but it explains it. Any chance FMVs will ever get the same resolution treatment as non FMVs with Citra?

#6

That would be near impossible to do. The FMVs are just prerendered video files.
