Fire Emblem Fates, Bonding

Upon reaching a certain point in FE:Fates Birthright, you’re instructed to “gently blow” on your partner to proceed further with bonding the characters. When this happens, my speed drops do 1%, FPS goes to 1, and Frame latency increases by about 80 per missed frame, getting slower and slower but never fully freezing. The issue occurs in both Nightly & Canary, though previously I was able to get through it (somehow?) when I reduced my settings.

I can’t progress in bonding without doing this part, however when this occurred earlier, I was able to get through it by reducing all of my settings, and disabling hardware shader. This however is not helping on my 2nd time going through this event.
