“Connecting to the internet” is a message that’ll pop up and load forever when you select a feature that requires connecting to Nintendo’s servers. Citra cannot do this. Only the game’s local wireless features are supported using Citra’s multiplayer rooms.
To trade, connect to the same multiplayer room in Citra as the other person that you wish to trade with. Once connected, go to the Festival Plaza in-game. If the other user does the same, you should be able to interact with each other there for trading or battling.
