How to recognize a new controller on older builds?

I’ve been using the citra canary 2514 build on my 2019 Intel MacBook Pro, but experienced frequent crashing in Fire Emblem Awakening. It’s my understanding issues experienced in canary are not supported, so I went back and downloaded citra nightly 1782, which as far as I could find is the latest nightly build on MacOS. The crashing issues seem to be gone, but the controller I’m using, the 8bitdo ultimate bluetooth, which the canary 2514 build recognizes automatically, doesn’t appear to be recognized by the 1782 nightly build. If I had to guess, this controller didn’t exist when the 1782 build was finished, so it makes sense that it isn’t recognized, but it could be due to a completely different issue as well. Any advice would be appreciated!
