I7 3rd gen vs i5 6th gen performance

Hi!

Which CPU would give better performance on Yuzu?:

  • Intel Core i7 3770 (3rd gen) 3.6GHZ (3.9GHZ TurboBoost)
  • Intel Core i5 6500 (6th gen) 3.2GHZ (3.6GHZ TurboBoost)

Thanks in advance

In order for us to provide better support, we need to see the log generated by Citra. This guide will walk you through how you can obtain the log file: How to Upload the Log File.

The i5 6500, by a LOT. Has FMA and AVX2, and while it’s old, it still is a Skylake, making it perform identically to a 10th gen (at equal clock speeds).

When comparing processors for emulation, the single most telling factor can be the Single Thread rating. Looking at the rating for the two you mentioned:

The i7 3700 has a Single Thread rating of 2070
The i5 6500 has a Single Thread rating of 2127

Check https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i5-6500-vs-Intel-i7-3770/2599vs896

Single Thread Rating doesn’t tell the whole story, but its a pretty good starting point.

On top of that, add the 40% boost AVX2 provides, and the 300% boost FMA provides. Dynarmic loves those instruction sets.
