Monster Hunter Stories screen freezing

While attempting to play MH:Stories the game itself runs smoothly through the cutscenes, however as soon as the intro cutscene ends, the screen freezes on the loading screen. While frozen, I can hear noises and progress through it, but after fumbling my way to the next cutscene and mashing through that, it didn’t resolve.

Neither skipping, nor playing the cutscene leading to the freeze changed anything.

  • Enabling Accurate Multiplication is recomended in certain games. If you are experiencing graphical glitches, try enabling this option.
  • You have cheats enabled. This might cause weird behaviour or crashes. Please disable them and retest if your game is experiencing bugs or crashes.

Since Citra is using your iGPU and not Nvidia, you will need to go to Nvidia Control Panel then in Manage 3D settings set Preferred GPU to Nvidia.

While you are there, also set Power management mode to Prefer maximum performance. If you have GeForce Experience installed, turn off Battery Boost as well:

Also do this:

  1. Open Citra then go to File->Open Citra Folder
  2. Open shaders folder then delete the opengl folder if it is there.
  3. Emulation->Configure... then click on Graphics on the left
  4. Click on the Advanced tab and turn on Accurate Multiplication

The Disk Shader Cache currently has a bug when Accurate Multiplication is turned off causing it to load all shaders slowly from zero every time you start the game and makes the precompiled cache extrememly large + the RAM usage skyrockets until you crash.

Cheers mate, it worked like a dream. Haven’t had much time to play around but the main village area went from around 20% speed to a clean 100%, and I’m not experiencing any freezing issues.

You’re an absolute legend, my man.

I take it you are using the performance increasing codes, right?
