Are you using any save states as opposed to normal in-game save files before encountering a freeze?

Yes I have been using the save states on the app not the rom

That’s likely the issue. Save states are not a replacement to in-game save files, they tend to break across different Citra version and are generally just more unstable. Please make sure to rely only on your in-game save file to save and load your progress. Save states should only be used within a gaming session (as that’s when they’re stable), not beyond it.

But sometimes the freeze would happen before I even save in game though, and that’s why I would use the save states on citra

Save state related freezing happen both on load, after load, before saving and after saving. In this case, where your progress is completely based on save states, there’s no way for me to figure out if something else is causing the freezing.

In order to figure out if something else is the cause, please set up a portable Citra version using the steps below to start a new game completely fresh. Make sure to not use any save states whatsoever when testing this out and upload a log file if it crashes/freezes:
Download citra-windows-mingw-20210221-c2d36cd.7z (direct link) from https://github.com/citra-emu/citra-nightly/releases/tag/nightly-1695
Extract it using Winrar or 7zip. Put the extracted folder anywhere you want. Inside the extracted nightly-mingw folder, create a folder called user. Now run citra-qt.exe from the nightly-mingw folder and run your game.
This Citra version should behave as if it’s the first time you’ve launched it and it shouldn’t have any of your user data from the normal installation version. If it does, then you did one of the steps wrong.
