Saving the game in animal crossing new leaf

i dont understand how to save my progress in animal crossing new leaf
the game itself works perfectly, no issues there but no matter what i try and how much i save i cannot understand how to save my progress.
i tried watching videos and even pressing every key on my keyboard, i just want to know if im being stupid or smth.

edit: nevermind! if you have the default controls, M is the start button!
